How long does a hair patch last, and when should you replace it?

Oct 19, 2026

Short answer: How long a hair patch lasts depends on the base material, how it is fitted, how often you wear it and how well it is cared for. There is no single number that fits everyone. A well-made custom patch that is serviced on time stays natural-looking for much longer than one that is worn hard and rarely checked. At Bunty's Hair & Skin Studio, Old Padra Road, Gajanand Complex, Vadodara, we talk you through what to expect for your patch at the consultation. We offer a 2-year warranty, and repair and maintenance are free for patches made at Bunty's.

What decides how long a hair patch lasts

1. The base

The base is the thin layer the hair is tied or injected into. Finer, more breathable bases look the most natural at the hairline but need gentler handling. Thicker bases are sturdier but can look less natural up close. Part of the consultation is choosing the right balance for your look and your routine.

2. The hair

Hair on a patch doesn't grow back. Every wash, comb and styling session loses a little over time, so how you handle it matters. Gentle combing, mild products and low heat keep density for longer.

3. The fitting method

Patches fitted with clips come off every day, so they get more handling. Tape and glue fittings stay on between refits. Each method wears the base differently. Our post on tape, clip or glue fitting explains the options.

4. Your routine

Sweat, sun, travel, helmets and the Vadodara heat and monsoon all affect a patch. An office routine and a daily gym routine will need different service schedules.

5. Servicing

This one is the most often skipped. A patch serviced on time (cleaned, re-fitted and repaired where needed) keeps its shape, colour and hold far better than one worn until it starts to fail.

Signs your hair patch needs attention

Bring your patch in if you notice any of these:

Often a repair, a re-colour or a refit is enough. Sometimes a new patch is the better choice. We tell you honestly which one applies.

How to make your patch last longer

  1. Follow your service schedule. We set it with you at fitting, based on your fitting method and routine.
  2. Wash gently, with mild products, and let the patch dry fully.
  3. Comb from the ends upwards with a wide-tooth comb. Never pull from the base.
  4. Keep heat low when styling.
  5. Protect it from strong sun on long days outdoors.
  6. Don't sleep with a wet patch.
  7. Store a removable patch on a stand or in its box.

Our daily care guide for wigs, toppers and patches covers the basics step by step.

When it's time for a new patch

If your current patch is worn out, you don't have to start from scratch. We look at what worked and what didn't on the old piece, then plan the new one around your hairline, colour, density and routine. Every patch is made to measure, so we give you an exact quote after the consultation, at the studio or on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a hair patch be serviced?

It depends on the fitting method, your routine and the weather. We set a service schedule with you at fitting and adjust it if your routine changes.

Can an old hair patch be repaired?

Often, yes. Lifting edges, small areas of shedding and tangling can usually be fixed with a refit or repair. If the base is torn or stretched, a new patch is the better choice. For patches made at Bunty's, repair and maintenance are free.

Do you repair patches made somewhere else?

Yes. We check the patch first and tell you the charges before any work. If you'd rather switch to a new patch, you get 25% off a new patch when you exchange one made elsewhere, valid till 10 November 2026. T&C Apply.

Is there a warranty on a new hair patch?

Yes, there is a 2-year warranty.
